Dear Editor,
Please allow me a space in your newspaper to talk about the unfair treatment by our employer..
I have been employed with a security firm for about four years, My issues with the company are working hours and salary.
In a meeting with the security guards on the month of August 4, 2013, our employer addressed us and told us our hourly rate would increase to $203 per hour; since the Ministry of Labour has addressed this issue recently.
However, as of August 13, 2013 our salaries have not been raised. The salary ranges from $90-$120 per hour no more or no less. The hourly rate is not fixed despite addressing us about it in the meeting held, the location we work have different hourly rate.
Working hours are a basic 12hrs per day. We start a shift from 7 am to 7 pm. Unfortunately, we are being released sometimes until 9 -9:20pm and do not receive any payment for extra hours stayed on location.
We would like to make it known that our employer has not paid us for the period of November 15 2009 to December 31, 2009. When asked about this, he was unable to provide any favorable response to date.
Because of our need for employment, it does not mean we have to be underpaid. Whatever, location we guard, we do it to the best of our abilities and we would expect to be treated with the same respect by our employer.
Underpaid
