A Princes Street, Lodge, family is now concerned for their safety after an unknown intruder sneaked into their yard early yesterday morning, during a heavy downpour, and set their Toyota Premio alight.
Sherwin Fraser and his wife were sound asleep around 04:40 hrs, when their car alarm went off. The couple then heard the persistent blowing of a car’s horn and looked outside to see a taxi driver standing outside their home and shouting that their car was on fire.
Mr. Fraser then ran outside and put out the flames but by then, the vehicle was badly scorched. Some of the electrical wires had been burnt, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
The couple said that the taxi driver alleged that he had seen a man running out of their yard and then saw the burning car. An empty bottle that had contained fuel and matches were found nearby.
A baffled Fraser, who holds a senior position at a city establishment, said that he has no idea who the arsonist could be, since he has no problems with anyone.
However, his wife suggested that someone who is envious of the family could be behind the incident.
The matter has been reported to the police.
