Activist Mark Benschop on Wednesday staged a one-man protest outside of the Venezuelan
Embassy in Thomas Street, expressing his dissatisfaction about the way the Venezuelan soldiers invaded Guyana.
Holding a placard stating “Venezuela needs to apologize to Guyana”, Benschop said, “I am out here of course to register my concern and dissatisfaction about the manner in which the Venezuelan government feel that they can disrespect our sovereignty and the people of Guyana”.
He added that although both countries profess to have a great relationship, there should be no act of provocation such as neighbouring soldiers marching across Guyana’s border, heavily armed.
Benschop said that the Government of Guyana, “to him”, has been satisfied after a letter was sent to the Government of Venezuela requesting an explanation for what happened.
“It is unacceptable because 72 hours has since passed since this incident occurred.”
