Lala Persaud Jagadeo, a 73-year-old Corentyne rice miller was shot dead last night when bandits stormed his Number 55 Village, Corentyne home.
According to reports, the elderly man was responding to a commotion in the bottom flat of his residence when one of the gunmen discharged a round which hit him.
He died before he could receive medical attention.
Kaieteur News understands that five bandits entered the bottom flat where some of Jagadeo’s relatives were relaxing around 19:45 hours.
The elderly man who was upstairs heard the commotion and went downstairs to investigate.
A licenced firearm holder, Jagadeo, responded to the situation without his firearm.
One of the startled bandits saw him and opened fire.
By this time other residents who heard the screams began converging on Jagadeo’s residence and the bandits, fearing that they would be cornered, shot their way out and escaped.
When they left, Jagadeo’s relatives picked him up and rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
