In recognition of World Literacy Day, yesterday, the Diamond-Grove Lions Club in collaboration with Princess Hotel joined the rest of Guyana and dropped everything and read at 11.00 am.
President of the Club, Petal Ridley, emphasized that the importance and joy of reading is to develop peoples’ minds and add value to their knowledge base.
She reminded that reading is part of one’s daily functions not only on the job but in their family life and by extension the community at large.
The hotel staff was very enthusiastic and read well beyond the allotted 15 minutes. Many promised that following this event, they would ensure that their children undertake daily reading exercises.
