Kevin Jeffrey held off a stiff challenge to sit on pole for today’s Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) 2ND ‘Race of Champions’ Meet which will be held at the South Dakota Circuit, starting from 09:00 hrs.
Jeffrey, fresh off a solid showing in the opening leg of the Caribbean Motor racing Championship Series which was held in Jamaica, continued in that same vein when he clocked 34.6 seconds to grab the top spot on the grid just ahead of Canada-based Paul Vieira, who registered 34.7 seconds, while the minor positions were claimed by Irfaan Kalamadeen and Keith Evelyn according to unconfirmed reports.
A source speaking with Kaieteur Sport said that Andrew King’s Mazda RX7 suffered mechanical problems and the team was working feverishly to rectify the problem ahead of today’s races, while Mark Vieira failed to participate in the time trials.
No word was given on the other categories.
Meanwhile, 22 races are carded for the day in all the different categories and competitors are expected to take the Lap of Honour at 08:30 hrs, while competition starts from 09:00 hrs.
It promises to be a day of thrills and skills and fans are being urged to make it to Guyana’s premier circuit racing facility to see some of the best exponents of the sport battle each other for supremacy.
