Police have released Ryan Kissoon, called ‘Dahl Belly’, who they have said was the prime suspect in the August 2011 murder of elderly drug store owner Harold Rachpaul.
Kissoon was released on $50,000 bail after being questioned at CID Headquarters, Eve Leary. He has been ordered to return to Eve Leary today.
Kaieteur News understands that the suspect was arrested on Monday at Fort Wellington, Berbice, while travelling on a truck. However, detectives have apparently found no evidence to link him to the 2011 murder.
Harold Rachpaul, 84, was found bound and strangled in his apartment, located behind the Robb Street, Lacytown drug store he had operated for close to 50 years.
Police had received reports that Kissoon, who worked as a security guard at a nearby business premises, was seen leaving the yard on the night that Rachpaul was believed to have been slain.
However, Kissoon had insisted that he was innocent, although he admitted that he was previously remanded on charges of armed robbery.
