Race walkers who have been away from competition will be excited by the news that the Cavalier Sports and Tour Club (CS&TC) will host a 10K event in observance of Amerindian Heritage month, Sunday September 8 next.
Activities will be held in collaboration with the Green Path Foundation and will be conducted around the village of Melanie Damishana ECD. Activities will be sponsored by several corporate entities and already Public Service Minister, Dr Jennifer Westford and the executive of Mings Products and Services have acquiesced to financial and other support.
Race walkers will compete in several categories including male, female, veterans, the differently able and juniors. Walkers are asked to be at the starting point by 06:00hrs for a start thirty minutes after.
Meanwhile, officials of the CS&TC recently conducted its annual week long Junior Race Walk Camp at Golden Grove ECD on Saturday August 31 last. Activities were conducted under the theme, ‘Race walking, a healthy sport’ and formed an integral part of the club’s 10th race walk month of activities. The athletes wee tutored in the intricacies of the sport while facilitators briefed them on historical aspects race walking.
They were also tutored in nutritional food values while exposed to historical aspects of Guyana. Officials intimated that they were especially pleased by the turnout as well as the enthusiasm exhibited by the participants. They are beseeching additional corporate support to continue with developmental works.
