The Patron Ms. Beverley Harper and Management of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) on Tuesday evening last honoured eleven of their cricketers who represented Guyana over the past two months.
They represented Guyana at the Under-17 and 19 male, Under-19 female and senior levels and those players are Shawn Pereira, Askay Homraj, Daniel Lewis, Brandon Prashad, Phaffiana Millington, Erica Lashley, Shabika Gadjabee, Shemaine Campbelle, Erva Giddings, Melanie Henry and Trishanie Cort.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster described the awardees as true representatives of the Club and congratulated them for being selected to represent Guyana. Special congratulations were offered to the talented Askay Homraj who scored a century against the Windward Islands and Shawn Pereira and Phaffiana Millington who captained the national Under-19 teams.
Foster complimented the players for their discipline and for representing the Club’s motto, “In Pursuit of Excellence” with honour.
He advised them to remain dedicated and focused. The veteran cricket administrator informed the cricketers that they have a duty as national players to be positive role models to their fellow club members and challenged them to be active in the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Anti-drugs and Pro-education Programmes.
On behalf of the Club, Patron Beverley Harper and President Keith Foster, the Secretary/CEO wished the awardees continued successes in their careers.
Vice President Renwick Batson hailed the contribution of the Club’s official sponsors whose financial input allows the development of new and exciting talent at the RHTY&SC. Special mention was made of Farfan & Mendes Ltd, Bakewell, Pepsi (DDL), Western Union, E-Networks, Metro Office Equipment & Supplies and Gizmos & Gadgets.
Batson, who also serves as the club’s coach noted that the entity, since its formation in 1990 has produced a total of thirty-five national players and ninety for Berbice at all levels in its short history.
Each of the honoured players was presented with a special Ansa McAl hamper. National Youth player Brandon Prashad and Phaffiana Millington spoke on behalf of the awardees, expressing gratitude to the RHTY&SC and Ansa McAl for honouring them.
Sixteen-year-old Prashad said that playing for Guyana was a dream come true for him as he strived to fulfill his ambition of playing at the highest level. He expressed thanks to the Management of the Club for investing heavily in the development of young cricketers. Millington who performed well for both the national female Under-19 and Senior teams noted that being a member of the RHTY&SC was a special privilege as it treats its membership with respect and honour and most importantly, teach each member to become the best they can be.
