Eight teams namely Specialist, Turning Point, Assassin, Scramblers, Mix Up, Police, C 7 and Thunder have so far qualified for the play offs of the Faye Joseph\ Mark Wiltshire dominoes competition which started recently.
In matches played in the preliminary round last Sunday evening at Turning Point, Specialist, led by Ken Wall (16) and Andrew Hope (15) marked 77 games to win the first round ahead of Turning Point with 69 and TNT 65. Colin Mc Ewan made 16 for Turning Point, while Sonia Goodluck chalked 15 for TNT.
Assassin marked 71 games to win the next round with Osmond Brathwaite scoring 16, Scramblers place second with 70 and Phantom third on 60. Basil Bradshaw 15 and Lorna Mayers 14 were Scramblers leading players while Colin Thomas made 14 for Phantom.
Mark Wiltshire marked a maximum of 18 games to lead Mix Up to a hard fought win over Police and Gangster in their preliminary round game; Mix Up finished with 84 games, Police 70 and Gangster 65. Loris Benjamin and Dennis Collymore chalked 14 games each for Police and Gangster respectively.
In the final round of the evening, C 7 came out victorious with 72 games, while Thunder took the runner up spot with 71 and R and R ended in the cellar position with 62. C 7 were largely indebted to Neville Cadogan who made a maximum of 18, Bryan Edwards 16 and Lawrence Whitehead 14 games. Faye Joseph made 15 for Thunder and Orin Favorite 15 for R and R.
Organising secretary of the Georgetown Dominoes Association (GDA) Mark Wiltshire said the top two teams from each preliminary round will go through to the playoffs which will be contested on Saturday at Gaulding Place, South Ruimveldt starting from 14:30hrs.
He stated that the first place team will receive $200,000 and a trophy, the runner up $100,000, third place $50,000 and fourth place $15,000 adding that the Most Valuable Player and the player who share the first love will be given $5,000 each.
The competition which is being sponsored by President of the GDA Faye Joseph and Wiltshire continues tonight at R and R Meadowbrook Drive at 21:00hrs.
