Red Force looking to go all the way in Champions League – Manager Khan

Manager of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force Omar Khan said that they will be looking to make the Region proud when they travel to India for the Champions League Twenty20 later this month. He was speaking with Kaieteur Sport last Saturday evening at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence during the Red Force final warm-up match against the Guyana Warriors.
This will be the last time Trinidad and Tobago will represent the Region as a country since the Caribbean’s next representative to the Champions League will be the victorious LCPL franchise team (Jamaica) and Khan said they want to make the people proud, “We will use this as a motivational factor to make the Caribbean people proud. This is the first time the team is coming together since the LCPL; we have a well balanced team with the likes of Sunil Narine, Samuel Badree, Lendl Simmons, Adrian Barath, Ravi Rampaul, Rayad Emrit, Shannon Gabriel and young Nicholas Pooran included and i am confident the guys will give a good account of themselves”, added Khan.

Khan, who was also the Manager of the LCPL runner-up, the Guyana Amazon Warriors feels the Warriors were the most balanced side in the league but they did not put enough runs on the board in the final against the Jamaica Tallawahs.
“The runs were not enough playing against a side that includes Chris Gayle, we were hoping to get 150 odd runs to give our bowlers a chance”, he said.
Many felt that the promotion of Sunil Narine ahead of James Franklin and Chris Barnwell in the batting order was responsible for their below par total since they allowed 62 dot balls, but Khan stated that all the players were capable and ready to play their role. “We had the best team and our players were good enough to hold their own in any given situation”, stated Khan.
Nevertheless Khan was satisfied with the players’ overall performance. “It was an excellent tournament for the Warriors, the team spirit was high and the guys played well throughout but the one match we really fell in caused us the tournament that was the final”, he argued.
Khan feels the LCPL allowed the younger players a chance to showcase their talent and brought back the fans to the game. He thinks the tournament will grow from strength to strength.
“I think it will attract more international players as well as sponsors, it will take a different structure and will also be of more benefit to the organisers and the Caribbean”.
When quizzed about the fast bowling department in the West Indies Khan believes it is in good hands. “It’s good to see Fidel Edwards back, Santokie did well, Sheldon Cotterrell is talented, Ronsford Beaton was injured and did not get to take part in the LCPL, but he is one for the future, they just have to continue working hard and focus on their fitness”, he lamented.
Khan also paid tribute to Nicholas Pooran, Chadwick Walton and Orlando Peters for their performances.
