Less than two months after stopping Errol Trotman in the 2nd round at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore is set to resume his career when he fights Rafael Vazquez for the vacant USA New York State super bantamweight title at the Resorts World Casino, Queens, New York, USA, Saturday September 21 next.
Moore strikes a pose with Marangin Marbun who he defeated for the PABA Super/bantamweight title in Singapore
Two other Guyanese pugilists, Elton Dharry and Jermine King, have also found favour with the promoters and are tentatively set to fight soon. However, while King’s opponent has been identified, Dharry’s is still to be named.
Vazquez sports an 8(6)-1-0 record while Moore has lost twice after fighting 32 times. He has also won multiple titles in various parts of the world including the PABA Super/Bantamweight title which he won from Marangin Marbun in Singapore in 2010.
He was also the North American Boxing Association (NABA) Bantamweight champion, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Inter Continental Bantamweight champion and the local bantamweight champion among others.
The Guyanese pugilist also suffered a controversial loss to Columbian, Irene Pacheco for WBO Inter Continental title, a decision that was widely condemned by the ruling body and resulted in the two judges being sanctioned.
Prior to the Trotman bout, Moore also won by 5th round technical knockout over Ramon Emilio Cedano in the Dominican Republic but prior to those bouts had been inactive since April 2011 when he defeated Felipe Almanza on points.
Meanwhile, King has recently migrated to the USA and is scheduled to resume his career against Valdrin Muriqi. Kaieteur Sport spoke with King and he said that his opponent is still to register a win after fighting three times. He was also knocked out once. King said that he will fight on September 25, four days after Moore’s engagement. Elton Dharry was listed to fight two days ago but apparently that bout has been aborted. He is also listed to fight on the Moore/Vazquez card but so far an opponent has not been identified while a post on Boxrec.com indicates that the bouts are subject to change and the commission’s approval.
