With the motto “preparing our youths for a brighter future”, the Guyana Police Force on Friday rewarded 27 successful scouts for completing an annual work study programme, which commenced in July.
According to the Scout Coordinator of the Guyana Police Force, Senior Superintendent Lyndon Alves, the month-long programme allowed the 27 individuals, who were taken from Berbice, Linden and Georgetown, to have a firsthand experience in a number of sectors including Forensic photography at the Criminal Investigation Department.
Alves said that since the work study programme started, the scouts were able to build working relationships with ranks of the Force.
“The main objective of this course is to help and fashion them to become progressive persons in society. This closing exercise will mark a significant milestone,” Alves said.
Senior Superintendent, Maxine Graham told the youthful bunch and those in attendance that the scout group was resuscitated by the late Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene back in 2008.
Graham urged the thriving candidates to use all that they have learnt in their future employment endeavors.
“Good things come in small packages, so I hope what was imparted will be a life lesson for you all,” Graham said.
Graham also noted that since the scout groups were restarted, there have been a total of 600 serving members across Guyana.
