Guyana and its western neighbour, Venezuela, have agreed to establish a direct air link between the two countries, twice weekly, via CONVIASA airline, which has the capacity to transport 70 passengers.
Consorcio Venezolano de Industrias Aeronáuticas y Servicios Aéreos, S.A (CONVIASA) is the flag carrier and largest airline of Venezuela that targets domestic, Caribbean and South American markets.
This initiative forms part of the declaration signed between Guyana’s President Donald Ramotar and Venezuelan President Nicolas Marudo Moros, yesterday at the Guyana International
Conference Centre.
It marked the end of a two-day meeting, touted as being successful, between the Guyanese and Venezuelan delegations. President Ramotar, like his Venezuelan counterpart, did not attend the Friday’s discussions.
According to the Guyanese leader, because of the Petrocaribe agreement (rice and energy) Guyana already shares a strong trade relationship with Venezuela. This bond is expected to further strengthen, with new commitments for air transport and the mulling of marine movement.
The signed declaration is expected to consolidate the airline sector. Venezuela has offered Guyana capacity building in the area of training of technicians and flight operations impetus.
