Police have charged a 64 year old man with the murder of chain saw operator Chandradat Hussein called ‘Deo’ of Goed Bananen Land, East Canje, Berbice who was found hanging in a camp up the Berbice River last Friday.
Charles Goodluck called ‘Charlie’ or ‘Charlie Patterson’ of Betsy ground, East Canje Berbice, who is no stranger to the law appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Christiansburg Magistrate Court and was remanded to prison until October 20.
Ironically, the accused and the deceased are from neighbouring villages which are located more than 100 miles from where the crime was committed.
Hussein’s body was found hanging in a logging camp at Kurduni, up the Berbice River. It was first mentioned that the man had committed suicide by hanging himself. Further investigations led to the arrest of Goodluck and the other occupants of the camp.
More suspicion was raised after it was learnt the man died by strangulation.
A Port Mortem Examination performed on the body on Monday August 26, 2013, by Pathologist Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan at The New Amsterdam Hospital gave the cause of death as ligature strangulation.
Diligent investigations narrowed the murder down to Goodluck as the alleged perpetrator.
Both Goodluck and Hussein were working with the Bovil concession.
Hussein was said to be the eldest son of his single parent mother. According to his mother, the former cane cutter worked most of his life in the interior areas at various timber grants and concession in Guyana. Apart from his mother, Hussein leaves to mourn four brothers.
Goodluck has done various jobs including working as a security officer and was previously charged with murder, manslaughter, attempted murder, assault, wounding with intent among other charges, all committed on former
female partners.
He was released from jail just over a year ago after serving time for wounding a 54 year female paramour after she rejected him.
