Dear Editor,
Almost all Guyanese want to see Guyana prosper, especially with hydro-power, but prosperity should not come by paying Sithe Global G$130 billion for putting the Amalia Falls Hydro Power deal together. That would be a loss to the Guyanese economy forever but a gain for the American economy, which will put the people in debt for the foreseeable future.
A debt that could lead to the dismantling of the country’s already poor social and educational structures. Is this the new form of economic colonialism? Is this how the Jagdeo/Ramotar cabal plan to drain Guyana of its vital resources? We are of the firm belief that when the PPP finishes with Guyana, all the wells, trenches, streams, canals, rivers and the ocean will run dry and there would not be enough of anything left for the poor and the working class to survive on.
The country’s milk has already dried up; now the cabal is looking for blood. We call on the opposition to stop bleeding the country of its resources. This morally bankrupt PPP cabal was not only putting the lives of future generations at risk with Amalia, they have already done so with the White elephant at Skeldon, the Berbice Bridge and the reckless use of the taxpayers’ money.
If we look at Ramesh’s or Fred’s two year old grandson and his excitement about life, that is what he deserves – to be debt free, stress free and happy.
If the people of Guyana had allowed the PPP to progress with Sithe Global on the flawed Amalia hydro power project, that grandson would have been immediately saddled with a contingent liability and a highly probably debt of some G$200,000 with Ashni Singh and the PPP “Motion to increase the Debt Ceiling” from G$1 to G$150 billion.
That would have been in addition to the current debt the grandson is saddled with at birth of roughly G$555,000, compliments of the PPP. Yes! that is how much the PPP has borrowed in his name and all the other two year olds to do projects over the last 20 years; much of it has been squandered on white elephants like the Skeldon Sugar Factory and GPL.
If the people and the combined opposition allowed the PPP to continue with their poor management of the financial affairs of the country, this grandson, by the time he finished working, would have had to pay an additional amount of G$10,000 in taxes per year to Ashni Singh’s operation while he would have been benefiting from wages increase of G$3,750 per year. This is the PPP’s grand formula for putting poor people in perpetual poverty—give a little and take away more so that they can feed the corrupt greed machine with more Taj Mahals, more beach front palaces, more chandeliers that are worth G$10 million, more Prados and Land Rovers, while the people continue to suffer with survival wages and sometimes no wages at all in places like Plastic City.
But the people are on to these jagabats.
