A after a period of intense training, National Volleyball Coach Levi Nedd has released the names of the players who will comprise the National
Under-19 squad for this year’s Inter-Guiana Games (IGG), which is scheduled to be held in Paramaribo, Suriname from October 16th to 20th 2013.
The squad includes five players who have represented Guyana at the U-19 level in previous games with players from both Berbice and Demerara making up the squad with the majority being from the Ancient County.
The full squad reads:- Creston Rodney, Bepaul Bandoo, Surendra Motiepersaud, Akeem Bowling, Kevin Damon, Steven Veerapen, Van Bowling, Muaaz Inshan, Ryan Munroe, Klondyke Rodney, Suresh Kallichand, Samuel Fraser, Raju Singh, Yoganand Dhoray, Asif Emanullah, Kellon Stewart And Kemo Bess.
According to Coach Nedd, five of the players are from Demerara, namely – Damon, the two Rodneys, Bandoo and Munroe, while the others hail from Berbice. The coach said that the squad has been involved in practice sessions for quite a while. However those session were all held outdoors and the IGG Volleyball competition is being held indoors. He stated that arrangements are being made for the players to have practice sessions at the National Gymnasium where there is a Taraflex Volleyball Court.
Coach Nedd said it is essential that the players have the experience of playing on such a surface and the different feel of playing indoors. The sessions will be held on August 30, 31 and Sept 1st. Nedd will be assisted by National Player Quacy Matheson.
Meanwhile, the Berbice Volleyball Association’s Competitions Committee is reminding all affiliated clubs to register for the Reggie Goberdhan Memorial Trophy League Competition which is scheduled to commence in September and conclude in December.
