Dear Editor,
The construction of the Marriott Hotel on the Caribbean sea and in Guyana’s capital city Georgetown has been in full swing and promises to bring to Guyana a modern, world class, state-of-the-art hotel facility of course with the added advantage of a globally recognized brand.
The ascending of a new hotel here in our country amongst the others that are already present was unequivocally a risk but given the standard of the brand or name carried worldwide, it was definitely worth taking the chance in establishing another branch.
The Buddy’s International Hotel, which was bought over and renamed by the Turkish some years back will definitely fail in comparison to what’s being built, despite the one advantage of the hotel being close to the airport.
On the other hand, when it comes to the Pegasus, its reasonable rates and breezy coastland area will definitely be shared with its major competition, also putting aside the fact of its location being in the vicinity of Georgetown, for even that will be shared.
The Marriott is already a winner as it comprises 197 rooms, a large ballroom, conference centre, a casino, a night club, a restaurant and above that, an amicable, inviting walkway. Marriott hotels operate in many countries and with its new resort in Guyana, it is set to attract new visitors and tourists to a relatively unknown land – a magnificent way of raising the bar and putting Guyana out there.
Being the most prioritized projects currently, it’s also an opportunity to widen the scope of tourism without taking away the attraction from some of the country’s prized assets- such as the largest single drop waterfalls and the rich green rainforest.
The Marriott is actually seen as a free ticket to these various sceneries here in Guyana. This will definitely boost Guyana and be a tremendous blessing for the tourism sector.
