The day has finally arrived and all systems are in place for the much anticipated Seventh Annual Guyana Cup 2013 Horserace Meet at the Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice.
With a few last minutes changes being made to the races all have been finally sorted out for the mega $34M event organized by the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Racing stables in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club. A large turnout is anticipated.
Even before the first race got underway the pressure has started to take its toll on some animals with Guyana only A class animal, Score’s Even, reportedly braking down and will be unable to compete. This new development has forced the organisers to make some last minute changes with the controversial ‘A’ class event, which was a late addition, been replaced by a D1 race with the same takings and distance.
A look at the B class event will see a full box of 14 of Guyana Top runners in contention with a few new imports that have touched down in Guyana with massive reputations. With $7M at stake in cash and prizes for the 1500 meters race, which is the largest ever for a single even in Guyana, and a sumptuous $3.5M and the Guyana Cup trophy all going to the winner, one cannot ask for more.
The host Jumbo Jet/ Stables leads the entries with five horses and are determine to keep the winning prizes in their gasp and with the likes of Grande Roja, Who’s on the Case, Got to Go, Marathon Man, and newly imported Blame the Jockey and Africanize, they have a good chance of taking the coveted prize back home. The Elcock and the P&P syndicate stable has a very formidable team of top notch horses with previous winners Donut Prince, The Message and Prince Charming and the still acclimatizing C.P Got Even all looking good and ready to go, they could very well be the stable to beat.
The Sheriff stable has always being in the reckoning and this time with three top runners in California Strike, Settle In Seattle and the every improving Swing Easy entered, they are in with an excellent chance to swing away with the crown. The others; in defending champion Elle’s Vision of the Jagdeo stable and newly imported Force Entry of the Kishan Bacchus stable, coming to Guyana with big reputations, can spring a surprise in what is expected to be a ding dong battle for the coveted title.
The newly added D1 event has an impressive lineup with most of the animals competing in the B class race entered in the 1200M gallop for a winner’s prize of $2M and trophy and total package of $4M; among them are Settle In Seattle, the Message Karina, Rania Del Café, Swing Easy, C.
