Mark Phillips to be new Army chief

– Promoted to Brigadier

Colonel Mark Phillips has been promoted to Brigadier and will be the country’s next army chief, as Rear Admiral Gary Best prepares to retire.
According to a government statement yesterday, President Donald Ramotar, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Chairman of the Guyana Defence Board, approved the promotion.

The statement said that the President has identified Phillips as the Chief-of-Staff designate and Chairman of the Joint Services Coordination Council.
Best who was promoted from Commodore to Rear Admiral recently, is set to retire on September 20, 2013.
President Ramotar has also approved the promotion of Colonel Julian Brewster Lovell to Brigadier.
The badging ceremony for Brigadiers Phillips and Lovell will be held at the Office of the President on Monday.
Phillips will be sworn in on September 16, it was also announced yesterday.
In late 2007, the previous administration announced a number of promotions, including the promotion of Best from Commander to Commodore. Also promoted to the rank of Colonel then were Andrew Pompey, Lovell and Phillips.

  You have a sick state of mind. you are the ones when criminals knock at your door, you get on the phone begging the police and army to help save your life and property. its these same individuals put their lives at risk facing the danger of the bullets to preserve yours and you have no thanks. how could you be so ungrateful? These men and women spend months away from their family in the border location, and patrol the streets and face every conceivable danger so that you could lay and slumber away in your bed. what are their rewards minimum wage!!! that have them struggling in poverty and the nasty faeces that come out of that toilet of yours that you call a mouth. A few bad eggs is no justifiable reason for you to be flushing the faeces out of your mouth on to the Army.

  The military system allows for one to be promoted if needs be to fill a vacant post, unlike the Police where you have to beg them to leave,while I congrats Brig. Phillips I would have like to see Brig. lovell retiring as Chief of Staff.

congrat Mr phillips congrat to you too Mr Lovell but I wonder what you have to do to be top dog maybe lick some boots I know thats hard for you to do so you will always have to be second in line soon Frasier will come and be your boss too I think your promotion is a signal for you to bow out gracefully you earned it you are at the top of your game there is no where else for you to go but home take your passing out parade with pride sir I salute you soldier.

Can anyone tell me if at all we should have a military confrontation .with any of our neighbors. That our army is capable of protecting our country..i do not think so” do you.
