Three weeks of rigid sessions that improved their knowledge of football has served 32 youth footballers of the Fruta Conquerors Football Club (FCFC) well when their administrators planned a three weeks youth football coaching clinic for aspiring footballers between 6-17 years.
The Children’s efforts were justly rewarded when Finance Controller of the National Milling Company (NAMILCO), Fitzroy McLeod, donated several pieces of football gears to their administrators for their use during practice sessions.
The summer camp is now over and the youngsters are engaged in the practical aspect of the sport but the gifts continue to pour in. Yesterday afternoon, coach of the FCFC, Gilbert Sampson, gleefully collected over two dozen haversacks for the children who will soon return to school after the August holidays are over.
Coach Gilbert (extreme right back) smiles proudly during a photo op with his ‘children’ who exhibit their certificates and the new haversacks at their clubhouse yesterday afternoon.
The gift came from Michael Bess of Atlantic Cable Networks which operates out of two locations, 3rd Street Alberttown and the Demerara Harbor Bridge Mall. Mr. Bess had earlier called into the Suppligen Sports Desk where he had congratulated the organizers of the FCFC summer programme and pledged to make a tangible contribution; the donation of haversacks was a fulfillment of that promise.
Unfortunately, the businessman was unable to attend the handing over ceremony but nevertheless conveyed his best wishes through an emissary. He wished the children well and urged the FCFC administrators to continue the good works of planning constructive programmes and initiatives towards the children’s development.
Mr. Sampson extended deep appreciation to his benefactor and assured him that the gift would go a far way towards the children’s development. The Fruta Conquerors coach admitted that the job of tutoring the children coupled with the responsibilities of assuming the role of a father figure is indeed challenging. However, he said that he derives deep satisfaction as he observes the youths’ developing in their field even as they excel in academics.
