Dear Editor,
In response to Mr. Freddie Kissoon’s letter, please, allow me to make one point of clarification in respect to Kissoon’s failed attempt in misleading the readers. But, before I do, let me congratulate him for publicly admitting that he’s been a bit harsh on the author of ‘The Thomas
Carroll Affair’ book. I was most amazed when I read this line in his letter: “I acknowledge to him (David
Casavis) that the evaluation was too harsh…” Honestly, I’ve never thought that it was possible to read those words by Freddie Kissoon. It’s an obvious sign that he’s done some serious introspection, and came out being objective. Kudos, Freddie. However, I would expect Freddie to be a bit more truthful in his effort in presenting what he termed the truth behind the scene of the unfolding events before our public spat (Kaka Belly vs. Tilapia) on “The Thomas Carroll Affair” book. These are key indisputable facts that he has avoided in order to cover up his tracks, but, not so fast Freddie:
(1) He wrote: “What readers didn’t know was that I had no idea that Mark Benschop was a friend of Casavis. So when Benschop wrote bitterly about me after my review, I thought out of respect for my friendship with Benschop I would call him. I did and he told me he was on the air and couldn’t talk…” (The truth) Kissoon did call me on the evening of Monday July 15, 2013 at approximately 9:45pm (as phone records would reveal) and said: ‘Hello, hello Mark oh sorry I didn’t know you were on the air sorry…’ I promptly said to him that it’s ok I just took a music break to talk to him since I thought it was urgent, he continued: ‘man oh gosh, I didn’t know that you and that man who wrote ‘The Thomas Carroll Affair” book were friends…” my immediate response to that inquiry was: ‘Freddie, the man and I aren’t friends and all I did was to make contact with him for an interview, and this lead to me offering to assist in the promotion of his book in Guyana…” Mr. Kissoon wasn’t satisfied, so he said: “Mark, Mark, you sure that man isn’t using you…?” I quickly closed my eyes and said: Lord, why me?
Our conversation ended with Kissoon making a promise to visit me the following day with certain information about other ‘evidences’ he claimed were omitted from the book. Well, the following day I got dressed in my three piece suit awaiting his arrival. Instead, I read another bitter letter in the Kaieteur News captioned: “Freddie Kissoon elaborates on David Casavis’s book.” This made me conclude that Freddie was being dishonest about his sincerity in finding out the truth about the book, and my connection to the author, Mr. Casavis. To date, Freddie has never turned up nor did he call with any explanation about his promise to me. It became clear to me that Kissoon sent his letter off to the press then called to give the impression that all was well, and that I should sit like a little good boy in a corner and allow him to be the only one capable of reviewing books and expressing himself. Yet, he has the audacity to write: “if he had spoken to me maybe another set of events could have been released…”
I call on Mr. Freddie Kissoon to stop contradicting himself, and be honest with his readers. Again, I thought this matter was closed after I received another phone call from Freddie from an Unknown number on Wednesday 14, August, 2013 at approximately 3p.m. On the line Freddie began: “Mark Benschop, Mark I want you see that I don’t have anything against you and that I’m calling you….Mark, if it wasn’t for people like you Mark, me and others I don’t know what would have happened to Guyana…” My only conclusion is, Freddie will always be Freddie and I will show him some respect since he’s just a few years away from his 70th birthday, and I think we are still friends. So, please forgive him for he’s only human and is entitled to his fair share of mistakes and bad judgements in life.
