The Seventh Annual Guyana Cup Horserace Meeting 2013 is turning out to be the event of all events in the horseracing circle and challenging many others this holiday season. With over $30M in cash trophies and other prizes on offer, it has set turfites, the various stables and principals abuzz.
Set for Sunday August 25 at the Port Mourant Turf Club and organized by one of Guyana’s leading horseracing Establishments, the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and racing stables, they (organizers) are leaving nothing to chance. Already the Grand Stand has been rehabilitated and extended to accommodate the thousands who are expected to throng the venue on race day. The venue has also been spruced up to cater for the absolute comfort of all, with running water and additional lavatory facilities.
Nine races are carded for the day and so far over 105 horses have been entered for the mega event. Over 100 stalls are now available at the venue with over 30 new ones being built or refurbished to accommodate the volume of racehorses on race day. A New Jumbo Jet starting gate will be used and will cater for 16 starters. A number of foreign and overseas based jockeys will be in action with some already in the country.
The B class event has $7M at stake in cash and prizes with the winner taking home $3.5M and the Guyana Cup. The event, which has all the top runners available, has the most ever entries for a feature event with over 20 entered. The line up reads – Score’s Even, Donut Prince, Settle In Seattle, California, C.P Got Even, Grande De Roja, Elle’s Vision, Got To Go, The Message, Funny Factor, Country Armagh, Miss Karina, Prince Charming, Zelick, Swing Easy, Rena Del Café, and Who is on the Case, with new imports, Africanize, Force Entry and City True among others.
Among the other horses on show are-Mission King, Summer Classic, Fresh Again, Traditional Man, Captain Crook, War Craft, Treacle, Celebrating Love, Top of the Line, Joyful Victory, Quiet Storm, Silent Lizzy, Third World, Super Bowl, Windy War, Cat Messiah, Silent Night, Flying Baby, Set for Fame, Another Jet, De legend, Silver Jet, Party Time, Easy to win, Rosetta, Dubai Duchess, The Bailiff, Bridal Stone Corner, Appealing Harvest, Top of the Line, Rock Sonia, Quiet Storm, Treasure Hunt, Unsettled, No Body Want me, Golden Key, Royal Empire, Quiet Dancer, Mona Lisa, Book Rules, Sunny Silence, Baby Kerry, I Will Have Another, Savion, Funny Side, Affinity, East to Win, Party Time, I want Revenge, Blessing, Angel Flyer, Speed Vision, Modern Cowboy, Prince Bayaya and Smarty Lite among others.
The other events on the day are-the Co-feature 1600M event for 3 yrs. old horses, bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies, E class and lower 1400M event, the F class race, G 3 and lower1200M event, the race for three year old 1200M Guyana bred horses, H and Lower 1000M, the ‘I’ and lower 1200M and the JKL 1200M race.
The top Jockey and runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with accolades compliments of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and Woodpecker Products.
The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
