Guyanese Nicolette Fernandes and Jamaican Chris Binnie have retained their number one positions after the completion of the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) senior championships on Saturday at the Georgetown Club.

Fernandes led the Guyana Women’s team to their first senior regional title after defeating Barbados in their final round game, while Binnie’s Jamaican team placed second to the host in the men’s category.
Barbados female team captain Karen Meakins is ranked number two in the region followed by Guyana’s Ashley Khalil, Mary Fung-A-Fat, Ashley DeGroot and Keisha Jeffery in that order. Melissa Lue Yen and Brooke Burrowes of Jamaica occupied the number seven and eight spots respectively, while Bajans Gylla Mackenzie (9) and Alex Jordan complete the top ten.
Guyanese Sunil Seth is at number two in the Men’s division, while Mark Chaloner of the Cayman Islands is third.
Richard Chin of Guyana is fourth followed by Cameron Stafford of Cayman Islands, Alex Arjoon of Guyana, Gavin Cumberbatch of Barbados, Bruce Burrowes of Jamaica, Shawn Simpson of Barbados and Mandela Patrick of Trinidad and Tobago.
Meanwhile Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) President Craig Archer said that Guyana did an excellent job in hosting the 2013 Senior Caribbean Squash Championships.
Speaking at tournament’s closing ceremony, which was held at the Grand Coastal Inn on the East Coast Demerara on Saturday evening; Archer said that Guyana has earned automatic qualification for the Pan American Games due to their awesome showing at the event.
He further challenged Guyana to throw their support behind the Caribbean 2020 Bid Initiative so that squash could realize its dream of becoming an Olympic sport.
Member of Guyana Squash Association, Robin Low, in delivering the vote of thanks expressed his appreciation to the respective sponsors namely Digicel, Banks DIH and Ansa Mc Al for coming on board.
