– following meeting with Gov’t, Private Sector
Government officials recently met with executives from Caribbean Airlines Ltd. to address key issues such as customer service, security checks of Guyanese passengers at Piarco International Airport and the airline’s fare structure flag carrier status.
Attending the meeting were: Mohamed Irfaan Ali, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce; Minister Robeson Benn, Minister of Public Works and Transport; private sector representatives, representatives from the THAG, GTA and CJIA CEO, Mr. Ramesh Ghir .
The Caribbean Airlines team from Trinidad, accompanied by Mr. Carl Stuart, Airport Manager, included Mr. Philip Marshall, Chairman of the Board, Mr. Jagmohan Singh, CEO (ag); and Ms Nalini Lalla, Corporate Secretary.
According to Minister Ali, this engagement is critical to combating the negative perceptions perpetuated against Caribbean Airlines. Given this fact, Minister Ali assured that the Government, and by extension the people of Guyana, recognise the role that Caribbean Airlines has played in attempting to fill the gap in Guyana’s airlift capacity.
Ali impressed upon the need for both Caribbean Airlines and Government of Guyana to improve the partnership and to formulate a strategy that would define the way forward in the best interest of all stakeholders involved.
Mr. Marshall assured that “the people of Guyana are important to the heartbeat of Caribbean Airlines,” and the fact that the delegation is meeting with the Government and private sector representatives points to its willingness to forge new partnerships.
One of the critical means of accomplishing this, he added, was to establish a formal communication structure through which important concerns can be quickly directed to the senior management of Caribbean Airlines.
The Caribbean Airlines Chairman said that despite constraints, CAL will continue to build improved partnerships with the Guyanese travellers.
On the issue of pricing, the Chairman said that the next step is for Caribbean Airlines to review the current price structure so that all customers can benefit.

With all the developments the ppp administration claims — why after 21 yrs in government — we Guyanese have to rely on another country’s airline to transport us — not going to even mention the harassment & exploitation that comes with it
is CAL suggesting that had Guyanese travellers not been “important to the heartbeat of CAL”, that they would not have met with Government? A Government that has awarded them Flag Carrier status! What typical Trini arrogance, Look, this makes me so mad. I travel a lot through Piarco, and it’s sickening, Take an example I saw last week. BW483 from the USA stops in Piarco to pick up fresh passengers for Guyana. All the Guyanese on board had to deplane and pass through their rigorous and rude security just to get back on the same plane to come home. What a load of nonsense. Get some decent competition into this game. Our Government doesn’t seem to have convincing negotiators.
“One of the critical means of accomplishing this, he added, was to establish a formal communication structure through which important concerns can be quickly directed to the senior management of Caribbean Airlines”
What a load of crap!
All important concerns should be quickly directed to senior management at all times, period. Savvy senior management would demand that.
But the incompetent ones will hide behind a formal communication structure.
wonder how much money was wasted here
IF GUYANA IS HEART BEAT TO CARIBBEAN AIRLINE ‘ WHY WAIT WHEN THE SUMMER DONE TO DROP FARE? IS ONLY WHEN A FAMILY MEMBER OF THE GOVERNMENT HAVE TO PAY A HIKE OF A FARE THEN GOVERNMENT ACT? GUYANESE HAVE TO FACE THE HEAT BECAUSE THE GUYANA GOVERNMENT DON’T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE PPL
The PPP and CAL are both callous murderers of the truth. I am not coming back to Guyana until several airlines are flying. I mean several!
Caribbean Airlines is a disgrace, they are rude, arrogant and disrespectful to Guyanese passengers travelling to and from Guyana yet the PPPC government choose them to be the Flag Carrier, that speaks volumes for the interest the Guyana Government has for it’s people.
Caribbean Airlines and the Trinidad Government subject Guyanese in transit passengers to seat searches, carry-on luggage searches and constant harassment for identity checks while on the plane on the tarmack, nowhere else in the world in transit passengers are subjected to such treatment. I call on the Guyanese Travellers to boycott Caribbean Airlines for 1 month to bring them and the Guyana’s government in-line.
When Guyana government Ministers travel, they travel first class on the taxpayers money and are not subjected to such treatment so they can care less what happens to the ordinary traveller.
Why do the passengers have to get off the plane in Trinidad and go through security then board the same plane again? That’s not their port of disembarkation so they should not be asked to get off, if I am not mistaken I was told that you can refuse to disembark. Get that airline out of our country, they suck and are too rude. I will not be paying them a dime to fly. I am patiently awaiting another airline to start flying to my homeland so that I can visit my country. What do they think they will find when you go through security in Trinidad? You cannot get anything illegal in the air while flying, you already went through security check in New York and there security is much better than what they have in Trinidad.
CAL SUCKS, CAL SUCKS GET THE RID OF THEM FROM OUR COUNTRY….
Is time they reduce the price i wanna go back home and spend my vacation and not stay in New York
T&T treat Guyanese like crap when they touchdown and i experienced it myself
