ONCE AGAIN, the Competitions Committee of the Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) Incorporated (GSCL Inc.) was forced to postpone their second 12/12 tournament, following persistent showers.
In fact the Everest Cricket Club ground, the venue which is being used entirely for this tournament, was left in a waterlogged state and following a visit by some executive members of the GSCL Inc yesterday, a decision was taken to cancel the, matches that were set for today.
Teams are asked to note that the draw which was conducted at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation sports club two weeks ago remains in effect when the tournament bowls off on the new date, which is Saturday 7th September, with the fixtures remaining in place.
Deputy Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steve Ninvalle, is expected to give some brief remarks and later declare the tournament which will have giveaways for the spectators open.
The first place team will collect $600,000 and a trophy while the runner up team will take home $200,000 and a trophy.
The Man-of-the-Series will receive one three-piece living room suite, the best batsman and bowler will be given $5 000 and a trophy each and the Man-of-the-Match in the final, $10 000 and a trophy.
Meanwhile, the GSCL Inc. has also listed on the cards, a Super 16 tournament which has an entrance fee of $50,000 and is set to start in mid-October. Teams interested in competing for the top prize of $600,000 can make contact with GSCL on 225-4802, 623-2704 or 653-5374 as soon as possible.
