With competition underway at the 19th Goodwill Swimming Champions taking place at the Aquatic Centre, Wildey, St Michael, Barbados, Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society Ltd. has announced that it has part-sponsored Leon Seaton one of the 8 & Under athletes representing Guyana.
Marketing Manger Mr. Clarence Perry presented the cheque to young Seaton in the presence of Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) Secretary Dee George at the entity’s Avenue of the Republic & Robb Street office.
Guyana is being represented by 17 swimmers and will come up against swimmers from Suriname, defending champions Trinidad and Tobago, the host nation and guests, St. Lucia.
The 50M pool at the National Aquatic Centre will be configured for 25 metres, 8 lanes. Ten (10) lane Daktronics Automatic Timing Equipment will be in operation with 2 back up buttons on each lane; 7 lanes in the 50 M pool as well as the 25 M pool will be made available for warm down.
Competition will be in the following Age-Groups 8 & Under, 9 to 10, 11 to 12, 13 to 14 and 15 to 17. Barbados, T&T and Suriname will all be represented by the full complement of 40-swimmers. This is the second time that Barbados is playing host to Goodwill which is regarded as a major event where young swimmers are afforded the opportunity to launch their international careers in the sport.
