Basketball fans are in for a treat when the Trinity Grid Pacesetters Basketball Club stages an Inter-Ward tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) starting early next month. Activities get underway on September 7and 8 next and consequently on every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday thereafter until September 29.
Defending champions, Albouystown/Charlestown will be hard pressed to retain their title as several top teams have signaled their intention to participate including Wortmanville/Werk-en-Rust, North/South Ruimveldt, McDoom/Diamond, Alberttown/Bourda, Kitty/Campbellville, Plaisance/Vryheid’s Lust, Lodge/Meadowbrook, East/West Ruimveldt, Tucville/Guyhoc, Melanie Damishana and Buxton.
Prize money totals in excess of $600,000 and the players will also win trophies and replicas. Additionally, there will be prizes for the Most Valuable Player, the player that scores the most rebounds, the most blocks and the most assists. Bounce ball time is 19:30hrs on each playing day.
Meanwhile, Dennis Clarke of the organisers in a release said they are urging the general public to come out and be a part of the fun. They said that over the years the tournament has provided high quality entertainment yet they are working assiduously to make it one of the best basketball tournament staged locally.
Consequently, a national women’s team will showcase its skills while fans could enjoy off court entertainment during the half time interval. Patrons will also be comforted to know that extra lights have been mounted in the parking lots to deal with the threat of theft of vehicular parts and other property.
