Horse race lovers are being put on notice for the biggest event in City when the Georgetown Turf Club (GTC) hosts a grand Horse Race and Gymkhana event dubbed ‘Grande Summer One Day Horse Race and Gymkhana’ slated for the GTC aback the Mocha Arcadia community, this Sunday August 18 next.
Four exciting races are carded for the day with two feature events expected to set the stage. In the first, jockeys will battle for honours in the ‘H & Lower’ while the second will see them competing in the ‘I & Lower’ race, both over 1200M.
The organisers have said that the two top horses to watch are Star Boy and Red Dragon and turfites could come out anticipating keen rivalry.
Otherwise, there are several other races including the ‘L & Lower’ over a distance of 1200m. The winning jockey carts off $60,000 with the 2nd place finisher winning half that amount. The third and fourth place finishers receive $15,000 and $7,000 respectively.
Then there is the unclassified event over a similar distance with the winner pocketing $50,000. The C & H classified race for non winners will also be competed over a distance of 1200meters and is expected to be a treat. The day’s events come to a climax with an Open event for cart horses, also over a 1200m distance.
All events will be conducted under the rules and regulations set out by the Georgetown Turf Club and horse owners and trainers wishing to obtain further information are asked to contact administrators of the Georgetown Turf Club on telephone # 667 1006.
