Dear Editor,
According to a BBC story, Norgewian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg in his re-election bid took to the streets, not in his capacity as Prime Minister, but as a taxi driver.
According to the Prime Minister he wanted to hear from ‘real voters’ before polls next month.
This is indeed a novel and creative way to garner public opinion especially given the fact that opinion polls showed a drop in popular support.
It is a well acknowledged fact that a good way of gauging popular opinion is to speak to taxi drivers, security guards and market vendors who seem to have a political instinct that is invariably correct.
This is why it is important not to lose the ‘grass root’s touch especially for those with political aspirations.
