Clad in a pair of blue denim pants and blue shirt, Joshua Baveghems walked slowly into the Providence Magistrates’ Court, yesterday, wearing a blank look on his face as he approached the prisoner’s dock. The 19-year-old is charged with the capital offence of murder. He stood before Providence Magistrate, Leron Daly.
When questioned whether his name is Joshua Baveghems… the accused stared blankly at the Magistrate. Without repeating the question twice, the Magistrate read him the charge and provided the date for the Preliminary Inquiry (PI).
According to the charge, Baveghems murdered Angela Mc Allister on August 8, last, at his Diamond Housing Scheme residence, located at Lot 538 Eleventh Avenue.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
During the brief proceeding, sounds of weeping were audible amongst the court audience. Relatives of the accused as well as Mc Allister’s friends were in attendance. Notably absent from yesterday’s proceedings were the dead girl’s relatives. Her friends showed great emotion outside the court.
Within five minutes of the hearing, Baveghems was remanded to prison. He is expected to return to Court on October 7, 2013, for the commencement of the Preliminary Inquiry.
