Guyanese pugilists turned in very creditable performances as they carted off the lion’s share of the titles when a six member squad engaged their Trinidad and Tobago counterparts in an Invitational junior youth tournament at the Cosmic Boxing Gym, Marbella, Trinidad and Tobago, over the past weekend.

Guyana Defence Force boxer, Quincy Boyce was adjudged the unanimous winner in his featherweight encounter with Trinidadian Malcolm Benjamin, while Shaka Moore of the Essequibo Boxing Gym (EBG) also earned a points decision win over Akmal Stroude. Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) representative, featherweight boxer, Diwani Lampkin, clinched a similar victory over Jared Nunes while Lampkin’s gym mate, Junior Henry, defeated Justin Parris to make it four wins for the Guyanese.
Light/middleweight Travis Fraser of the Tiger Eye Boxing Gym (TEBG) dropped a points verdict to Ryan Cummings, while Harpy Eagle’s bantamweight pugilist, Travis Hubbard suffered a similar fate to Christian McDonald.
The boxers returned home Sunday night and convened at the Main Street office of President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, where the media was briefed on details pertaining to the event.
All of the boxers were grateful for the opportunity to show off their wares on an international stage and extended gratitude to the officials of the GBA, while both Manager and trainer of the squad, Eustace Cuffy and Clifton Moore, expressed satisfaction at their charges’ performances. Meanwhile, Director of Youth and Sports, Neil Kumar, joined Mr. Ninvalle in congratulating the boxers. He further complemented the GBA President while pointing out that he is the only official from any sport entity to have mapped out an itinerary and submitted same to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport for perusal and assistance. The boxers will resume training at their respective gyms from this afternoon.
