“They told me not to contact Kaieteur News, neither AFC again– that I will have my job back….and I waited a month and I have not gotten any reply– they told me to keep my mouth shut!”- Dr. Jaikarran
By Leon Suseran
Sacked Berbice doctor, Ramesh Jaikarran is claiming that he has been threatened that he will never get his job back once he speaks to the Kaieteur News or the Alliance For Change again.
The opposition Alliance for Change (AFC) in Berbice had taken up the doctor’s matter a few weeks ago when he appeared on a Live- TV call- in Programme on DTV-8.
Jaikarran is taking the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Berbice Regional Health Authority (BRHA), Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo, as well as a former Doctor-in-Charge of the Skeldon Hospital, Dr. Vishalya Sharma to court for unpaid salaries between September and December, 2011.
Jaikarran who had returned from Cuba from studies, was dismissed from practicing in the public health system in Guyana two years ago and has stepped forward to vent his frustration at what he claims to be the withholding of his salary and withholding of records that he is now trying to access to prove that he was employed at the Skeldon Hospital during the four-month- period.
In new developments, the young doctor, who spoke to Kaieteur News recently, is very afraid that he will never get back his job and be reinstated at a Berbice Health facility.
Jaikarran revealed that he was contacted by a senior government official who threatened to never give him his job back if he continues to speak to Kaieteur News or the AFC party. Additionally, the fearful doctor stated that he is being sued for $5M for breaching a contract with the Ministry of Health.
Dr. Jaikarran showed this newspaper two disciplinary letters received from then Medical Superintendent of the Skeldon Hospital, Dr. Vishalya Sharma reprimanding him for not making calls in the Emergency Room in November 2011.
“How can they say that I was not working— here is a threat that action would have been taken against me while on the job…this is proof!” exclaimed Dr. Jaikarran.
The letters, he stated, are proof that he was employed at Skeldon Hospital during the period for which he has never received his salaries.
“The Minister [of Health] is blowing hot air and is pretending that he doesn’t know that I was working.” “They told me not to contact Kaieteur News, neither Alliance for Change (AFC) again– that I will have my job back….and I waited a month and I have not gotten any reply– they told me to keep my mouth shut!” Jaikarran stated.
“They said I am an AFC doctor…”he added.
Jaikarran admitted that he is still contractually obligated to the Guyana Government.
“they have actually requested $15M for me after they terminated my contract. I asked for re- instatement and they denied me with a letter from the Public Service Ministry…and I told them I cannot afford to pay $15M and that I want back my job to fulfill my contract.”
He stated that he is blacklisted from leaving Guyana.
The young doctor said that he is “scared of them…I am very insecure in terms of the system.”
He showed this newspaper that he has written a long letter to His Excellency President Donald Ramotar requesting a meeting, but has received no response.
“Three times I have written to meet with His Excellency and wrote to the Attorney General, Dr. Jennifer Westford, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran, letters through registered mail…I have sent to reach with them and I haven’t gotten replies.”
