A father of four is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), nursing a gunshot wound to the left side of his head, the result of a drive by shooting.
Claude Petrie, 44, of Perseverance, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara was shot in his head around 09:30pm Saturday while he was standing near the Rockies Sports Bar on Light Street, Georgetown.
Yesterday, on his hospital bed, the father of four said he was standing in front of his car when he spotted an old friend at the popular bar which is frequented by Brazilians.
“I called for the guy and I was approaching him to greet him when I suddenly froze. I couldn’t move. All I saw was people running,” Petrie recalled.
Kaieteur News understands that a person or persons in a dark coloured black pick-up truck which was heavily tinted opened fire on a group of men who were in close proximity to Petrie.
It is not clear who was the target of the attack.
Petrie said he has no enemy or any problems with anyone.
“I think some guy just get trigger happy,” the 44-year-old taxi driver suggested.
Petrie who is in a stable condition commended the doctors at the hospital for the job they have done.
Meanwhile, at the scene yesterday an eyewitness said that at about 9:30 pm on Saturday, a tinted car pulled up beside Petrie, who was standing in front of the auto sale company and discharged a number of rounds, one of which caught him in the head.
“Well, I was at Rockies last night (Saturday) when I see this tinted car traversing the street steady like it looking for somebody, and then I hear about four shots fire off and people start running,” the man said.
He added that when he went to inquire about what happened, Petrie was lying on the ground shouting for help and persons subsequently rushed him to the hospital.
The eyewitness said that due to the confusion which followed after the shooting, he was unable to make out the number plate of the vehicle or how many persons were inside.
