He lived a full life and at age 73 former Bodybuilding Champion, Mr. Guyana, Alvin George Williams died on Wednesday at his home in Diamond.
The former bodybuilder was a regular Champion in the Mr Guyana bodybuilding contests during the 1960s and 70s.
He represented Guyana at the Mr. Universe competition in Canada where he placed fifth to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
He was inspired by former Mr. Guyana and eventual gym owner Eldon Heart and frequented the gym for training on Lamaha Street. After Hart passed away, Williams opened the William’s Barbell gym in Garnett Street Newtown.
His sister Aunt Lorene described her brother, whom she informed had eight children, three for his present wife Lynette Durant and the others from a previous marriage, as a quite, dependable individual who loved lifting weights since he was a boy. The funeral is fixed for Monday and he will be buried in Diamond.
