Football fans are guaranteed action packed encounters when the curtains go up on the Slingertz Football Club/National Association of Women’s Football ‘Goal for Gold’ football extravaganza at the Den Amstel Community Centre Ground tomorrow evening.
When the action gets underway at 18:00hrs Den Amstel FC will face off with Rhythm Squad in the supporting game while the feature attraction pits the skills of Camptown FC against Uitvlugt FC and

commences at 20:00hrs.
Both encounters promise to be action packed but even as the players aspire to entertain the crowd with a classy brand of football, the organizers are working feverishly to put the necessary modalities in place to ensure that those players are tangibly rewarded.
To this effect, two representatives of the organisers, Mark Young and Colin Aaron, visited the offices of Star Party Rentals and Talk is Cheap & Money Gram in Craig Street Campbellville and Alexander Street Kitty, respectively, where they collected handsome packages from those businesses to offset the expenses associated with the organising of the tournament.
At Talk is Cheap & Money Gram, proprietor Eton Cordis donated a sizeable amount towards the first prize for the women’s segment of the tournament. “I am indeed enthused by the efforts of the organizers towards the promotion of women’s football and unhesitatingly acquiesced to support,” pronounced Mr. Cordis as he made the presentation.
Trenton Griffith acted on behalf of the management of Star Party Rentals and made a similar donation to the organizing group. He reiterated his company’s commitment to the development of sports and further urged the organizers to continue with their effort towards the development of the sport. Mr. Griffith further wished the organizers success even as he encouraged support from football fans. “Our input could only be efficient when fans turn out in their numbers in support of the organizers and players,” he opined.
Both recipients of the donation were grateful and expressed those sentiments to their benefactors. Mr. Young serves as the chairman of the organizing committee and said that the participating teams have all been engaged in stiff training. He said that such diligence will be highlighted when they take to the field. “At the moment no one could predict the outcome of this tournament; we have several well oiled units competing amongst themselves and fans will only be able to make predictions as the tournament progresses,” said Mr. Young.
A firm handshake sealed the deal as Colin Aaron receives the sponsorship cheque donated by Cordis Eton (left).
The winner of the male tournament pockets two million dollars while the runners up win half that amount. The 3rd and 4th place finishers receive $500,000 and $300,000 respectively. The females will also compete for lucrative prizes but the organizers are currently working on the ramifications before arriving at final figures. However, each of the teams will receive $25,000 to assist with preparations.
The tournament is two tiered in nature with 16 male teams and 8 women teams battling for respective honours. The male teams include Alpha United, Camptown FC, Rhythm Squad FC, GDF, Conquerors FC, Pele FC, Western Tigers (Georgetown), Topp XX, Netrockers, Milerock (Linden) and Uitvlugt, Den Amstel, Seawall and Slingertz (West Coast). The women’s teams are drawn from Georgetown, Bartica, West Demerara and Linden.
