The Pan American records have not yet been confirmed but the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) is confident that the results will be similar to that of the Commonwealth.
The final nominations updated starting lineup features the top six in the world this year in the 53kg Sub Juniors for the World Championships with Shewdas as the favorite to capture Gold and World title with an established total of 497.5kgs from nearest challenger Dalton La Coe of the USA (Total 455kgs), Kazuma Arai of JAPAN (Total 435kg), Alexei Kulakov of RUSSIA (Total 432.5kg), Tetsuharu Katsuta of JAPAN (Total 405kg) and Erick Aguilar of ECUADOR (Total 377.5kg).
With the daunting airfare of USD $1620.00 being quoted as the cheapest, the GAPF is appealing for assistance to ensure that Shewdass is accompanied by a Manger/Coach.
According to the local governing body, all Guyana, especially the County of Berbice where Shewdass resides, should rally around him in his final year as a Sub Junior (18 years & under) as he seeks to put himself and the Guyana on the World map following in the steps of fellow powerlifter – World Masters Winston ‘Little Master’ Stoby and Mr. Universe Hugh Arlington of Ross of Bodybuilding fame. Ross was also a Powerlifter.
Shewdass and his Manager/Coach are scheduled to depart on Saturday August 24. Patriotic Guyanese desirous of supporting this duo as they embark on this history making journey are free to contact the Office of the GAPF via 225 0115 or cell 647 5375.
