Port Mourant Training School one (PMTC 1) continued their dominant performance in the volleyball arena when they demolished all opposition to win the Rick Sakawat Memorial Volleyball competition organised by the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA).
The event was played on Sunday last at the Guysuco Training
Centre, Port Mourant Volleyball Court.
The competition, which was played on a best of three basis, saw five male teams and two female teams competing. The day’s activity was intense and the standard of play was high. Despite humid conditions, the players tried to stay focused and gave it their best. Three Doors Strikers 1 copped the second place, with PMTC2 coming in third.
In the female category, the Berbice Under-19 female side served their way to the top spot, winning for themselves the Trophy Stall Trophy while the entire team received medals.
The event was graced with the presence of His Excellency, President Donald Ramotar who took time out to mingle with the players.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) on show was Quacy Matheson of the PMTC1.
At the opening ceremony participants, officials and spectators observed one minute’s silence in honour of the late Rick Sakawat who was a volleyball player for Port Mourant. Brief remarks were delivered by overseas based sponsor, Devo Girdhari and former President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation Reggie Bhagwandin. Mr. Girdhari also presented the Rick Sakawat T-Shirts to all the players
and officials. (Samuel Whyte)
