Anxious to resume cricket due to the current unpredictable and extended rainy season which has curtailed the game since April this year, the Berbice Cricket Board has decided that they will resume competitive action next week despite no guarantees of consistent sun.
Heading the list of competitions which were suspended were the 2013 First Division competitions, the inaugural Berbice Bridge Inc. 50-Over knock-out and the Universal DVD T20 round-robin competitions. The Berbice Bridge tourney had progressed to the semi-final stage, Albion Community Centre is scheduled to host Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets while Port Mourant Karibee Rice will travel to Cumberland to clash with Young Warriors.
They hope to play off these two matches next week Saturday, August 17, with Sunday 18th as the alternate day. The Universal DVD competition should continue from Sunday August 18.
Also on the list to resume next week, weather permitting are the Tenelec Inc Under-15 and Under-17 competitions, the Elizabeth Styles Under-19 50-over as well as the NCN Under-15 Inter-Zone and Diamond Fire & General Insurance Under-19 Inter-Zone.
The 2013 New Building Society Second Division 40-Over competition would hopefully continue from Sunday, August 18 also.
Meanwhile, the 2013 Republic Bank Under-17 Inter-Zone tourney is expected to get started on Tuesday August 20, with the two semi-finals – New Amsterdam/Canje/East Bank vs Upper Corentyne at Cumberland and Lower Corentyne vs West Berbice at Albion.
All cricket clubs are asked to take note and to make all efforts to get their grounds playable, weather allowing.
