The inaugural GT&T-sponsored Junior Caribbean Hockey Festival came to an exciting conclusion yesterday, at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Members of all the participating teams pose for a photo op following the completion of the Festival last evening, at the National Gymnasium.
Played among teams from Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and host Guyana, the Festival which was being held for the first time was dubbed a huge success by representatives of the sponsors, teams, parents and fans alike and it is the firm view that it should become an annual fixture on the Guyana Hockey Board calendar of events.
In the end, the winners of the respective categories were: Boys Under-13- Marian Academy with Futuristic Tigers of T&T occupying second place and GCC finishing third.
The Most Valuable Player award went to Marian’s Rosario Ramsammy.
In the Boys Under-16 Division- Combermere (C) of Barbados won from T&T’s Futuristic Tigers, while GCC ended third.
The MVP was Che Modeste of T&T.
In the Girls Division- Futuristic Tigers captured the title from GCC, while Combermere finished third.
Aliyah Gordon of GCC was voted the MVP.
In the Boys U-19 category, Hikers proved too strong for St. Stanislaus that finished second and Old Fort in the third spot.
Jamarj Assanah was named the MVP.
In the Girls segment, Flora GCC was crowned champions followed by Hikers and Super Mix in that order.
Marzana Fiedtkou was later voted the MVP.
Meanwhile, the individual results will be published in the next issue.
