The Berbice Bridge Company Inc. (BBCI) has taken the initiative to lower the toll charges for the following categories of vehicles in what the company termed as its ‘Summer Holiday Season Special’. The company made the announcement on Friday.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Mr. Omadatt Samaroo stated that Pick- up trucks; 4-Wheel drive SUVs carrying trailers with pleasure craft vehicles such as jet-skies, race cars or bikes; race horse bogies, where the trailers will be allowed free of charge, will also benefit from reduction in tolls.
Samaroo added that the management has taken this decision “as part of our initiative to boost tourism, especially in the summer holiday season and part of Emancipation promotions.”
He added that the toll reductions will run from August 01, 2013 at 08:00hrs to August 12, 2013 at 08:00hrs. Since the bridge opened in December 2008, there have been many outcries from persons, especially motorists and opposition parties about the high fares that have to be paid to cross the Berbice River.
