Head coach of the Guyana Amazon Warriors Roger Harper told the media yesterday at a press conference held at the Guyana National Stadium, that execution of their game plan was one of the keys to the team winning their first two games in the Limacol Caribbean Premier League T20. The Amazon Warriors defeated the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel and the Jamaica Tallawahs at Providence in the first two games and Harper said they will look to maintain a clean
sheet at home when the take home the St. Lucia Zouks today.
He pointed out that they are delighted with both wins. “The victories did a lot for the team confidence and we will look to employ the same strategies and continue in the same vain. The crowd did boost our confidence a lot and we are looking forward to their continued support,” said Harper.
Harper stated that St. Lucia Zouks is a good team and they played well in every department in their previous games.
Opener Martin Guptill stated that he is enjoying the LCPL so far and he is satisfied with his performance. “I would have liked to score a few more runs in the previous matches but it is team game. Simons played well and it is nice to open the batting with him. I also enjoyed the crowd support they have been great and really urged us on”, said the New Zealander.
Head coach of the St. Lucia Zouks former West Indies fast bowling great Andy Roberts said that his team is confident going into the game. “We played a good game against Barbados Tridents but lost in the end. We got a decent start in the batting but it slipped away because of a lack of intensity between 10 and 20 overs and I think the guys lacked confidence as well”, he informed.
Roberts stated that Guyana usually play well at home. “Guyana play good on this type of surface so it is challenging for us, but we have some slow bowlers so we can give a good account of our selves”, added Roberts.
He said that the LCPL has been good and he appreciates the sellout crowd. When quizzed about his team preparation, Roberts said that he is not too satisfied as yet. “Some of the guys have not been playing much cricket in the Windwards but they are getting where I want them to be,” said Roberts.
Meanwhile tickets for both games are sold out and gates open from 13:00hrs. (Zaheer Mohamed)
