Despite the many challenges involved in the development of their organization, administrators of the Black Hawks Martial Arts Management Network/Association are diligently pressing on and continue to employ initiatives towards the development of their protégés. Consequently, they are continuing this developmental work in a Summer Camp that got underway July 22 last and concludes August 23 next.
Four Degree Black Belt, Sensei Garfield Newton, plays a pivotal role in the organization of the event with support from other National and International Kumite Champions and Black Hawk board members. He said that activities are structured to help participants build self-esteem, self-awareness and self-confidence while instilling discipline in the youths. Mr Newton explained that the services of several professionals have been sought and they will deliver lectures in their respective fields of expertise. These include teachers, doctors, Police Officers and those of the Guyana Defence Force.
Organizers have also said that a top martial arts movie star is scheduled to make a guest appearance sometime before the end of the summer camp. There are no age restrictions and Mr Newtown explained that participant as young as 4 years are involved. Activities commence daily from 09:00hrs and conclude at 16:00hrs. The students will be introduced and tutored in several styles including Kana Jui Jitsu, Kung Fu, American Tae Kwando, Aiki Jui Jitsu, Karate, Judo Gymnastics and self- defence among other arts.
Consequently, at the end of activities, administrators will conduct a grading session among its membership as well as some participants of the camp. Activities will conclude with the Guyana Martial Arts Open Championships at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on August 24.
