Captain of the Guyana Amazon Warriors Ramnaresh Sarwan said that he is happy with the start his team has made to the Limacol Caribbean Premier League (LCPL). He was speaking after they defeated the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel by 19 runs at the Guyana National Stadium Providence on Wednesday evening.
Sarwan said they fell a bit short of their target in terms of runs but still came out on top. “We got a good start at the top of the order and we were looking for a score of around 180, but we fell short. We still managed to get a decent total and we were able to defend it”, added Sarwan.
He was high in praise for Jamaican left arm seamer Krishmar Santokie: “Santokie bowled well especially towards the end, young Permaul backed up excellently and it was a good team effort, we are gelling well together”, he informed.
The right handed batsman pointed out that their plan was to bowl in the right areas consistently. “The pitch was keeping a bit low and our plan was to put the ball in the right areas and not to give anything away, Nicholas Pooran played a fine innings, hats off to him and I wish him well in the future. We will take every game seriously”, he noted.
Sarwan stated that he gained some experience from playing in the Indian Premier League a few years ago and the LCPL is similar to that.
Meanwhile, Santokie said the game was challenging and he always backs himself to perform. “I didn’t try anything new, I just tried to put the ball in the right areas and take the game seriously”, he stated.
Santokie will come up against his fellow Jamaican Chris Gayle when the Amazon Warriors face the Jamaica Tallawahs this evening and he said that he is looking forward to the challenge. “Gayle is a very good player. It’s a mind game; I have never been intimidated by him, but I know it’s going to be very challenging”, stated Santokie.
