Barbados Tridents overcame the Antigua Hawksbills by 12 runs to record their second win in as many matches when play in the inaugural Limacol Caribbean Premier League (LCPL) T20 Tournament continued last evening at the Kensington Oval, Barbados.
Barbados Tridents, enjoying massive home advantage and a bigger crowd than their previous game, won the toss and elected to take first strike, they posted 146-8 off their allocation of 20 overs.
Shoaib Malik led all batters with 33 which came off 30 balls and included two fours and one six while fellow Pakistani Umar Akmal supported well with 30 off 21 balls with one four and two sixes. Jonathan Carter stroked three fours and two sixes in a 29 ball 31 at the top of the order and Keiron Pollard made 18 (2×6).
Marlon Samuels was the pick of the bowlers with 2-17 while Sheldon Cotterrell grabbed 2-36, there was one each for Kemar Roach, Dave Mohammed and Devon Thomas.
Riyad Emrit put the Antigua Hawksbills on the back foot with the early wicket of Devon Thomas (02) before Shakib Al Hasan got rid of Rickey Pointing (01) to leave score at 36-2 by the sixth over.
Johnson Charles and Marlon Samuels took the score to 68 before Charles went for a top score of 44 decorated with five fours and one six off 37 balls. Samuels was then stumped off Ashley Nurse first ball for 23 (2x$0 off 31 balls; his dismissal turned the game in Tridents favour. However Ben Rohrer attempted to keep his team in the hunt with a 17 ball 23 (1×4 1×6), but Nurse got into the act once again by having him caught by Pollard before Keiron Powell was taken off Emrit for 10 at 117-6 in the 19th over.
Kemar Roach (12) then belted two sixes before he was well caught on the boundary in the final over as Nurse finished with 4-27 from 2.5 overs. Emrit took 2-25 while Al Hasan and Dwayne Smith had one each as the Hawksbills finished on 134-8 off 20 overs.
The Limacol Super Six prize went to Pollard who’s six cleared a distance of 93 meters, Akmal got the award for the fastest scorer in the match while Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
