Relatives of a veteran miner are in a state of shock following an accident on Wednesday afternoon in which he was crushed by an excavator in Pamela, Mahdia.
The dead man, who was identified as Alexander Murray, 57, of Lot 125 Barima Avenue, Bel Air Park, has been in the mining profession for a number of years and operates “Murray’s Mining”.
According to a relative, around 10:30 pm Wednesday they received a call from one of the workers that Murray had been involved in an accident. The relative further stated that their worst fears were confirmed after they were told that Murray succumbed to his injuries at the Mahdia Hospital.
Based on reports the family received, Murray was a passenger in his excavator when it went in a “soft surface” and began to topple downhill.
Murray was discovered pinned under the vehicle. A post mortem is expected today. Murray had left for the interior last Sunday.
