Kwakwani needs better roads

Dear Editor,
There are two important things that I would like the relevant authorities to address urgently.
First of all I would like to say that I always love to visit my home in Kwakwani, it’s such a beautiful place to relax and a place that holds lots of wonderful memories. Someone once said that home is where the heart is and I believe that is why I continually go back from time to time. There have been lots of changes there over the past five years since I left, but one thing seems to remain the same, the condition of the roadways.
The roads in Kwakwani are an important asset to its people, however, sad to say, they have not been improved or even taken seriously. Almost everywhere you turn there is a pothole or a pool of water and it isn’t a pleasing sight. It should be better, but no one seems to care enough to push this cause of getting better roads as far as it should go.
The roads are in terrible condition and this is evident from the Park to the Waterfront and all through the Lampisland district. Kwakwani has been mostly neglected for many years, its roads are sadly degrading in most places and I am very sure it’s costing the road users tens of thousands of dollars in repairs to their vehicles.
So today I ask; where are the voices of the freely elected leaders of Kwakwani? Have they gone silent or retreated in the shadows? This issue about our roadways has been around for years; however, up to now nobody seems to be worried too much about it. Sometimes you hear talking, but no action yet.
I would surely wish for those who were voted for by the people in Kwakwani to start moving, more than talking and promising. The roads are vital to our community and they need to be given urgent attention. The only people who are capable of looking into this matter and dealing with it are the leaders in the community, they know themselves. Somebody needs to step up and do what they were supposed to have been doing a long time ago. Kwakwani is a beautiful place, but it would look even more attractive with better roads.
Secondly, I would like the local NDC and community leaders to start looking more urgently at the condition of the Linden to Kwakwani Highway. It is in a very depressing state at the moment and has been that way for months now. I don’t know why there aren’t any public complaints from the road users about the condition of the road and how it is affecting travel. These things should have been prevented. The road is in dire need of repairs, there are lots of pools of water and badly damaged sections that need to be rehabilitated. If nothing is done it would soon become impassable.
Traveling conditions are already difficult and the bus drivers are currently enduring heavy costs to repair their vehicles. The road isn’t just a means of transportation, it is also a way of making a living for some people and it is Kwakwani’s most vital connection to the outside world for goods and services.
This road needs saving today, and the leaders who are responsible for taking care of Region Ten need to look at this situation as soon as possible.
