Four amateur bouts will complement the four professional fights when the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) in collaboration with the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the National Communication Network presents the 29th edition of Guyana Fight Night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), Saturday August 3 next.
In an earlier report Kaieteur Sport had inadvertently stated that the card would have been staged tomorrow night. This is not so and the boxers are assured that activities are slated for Saturday night.
The amateur segment will get underway with Tefon Green of the Harpy Eagle’s Boxing Gym (HEBG) squaring off with Junior Henry in the 110-114lbs division, followed by a junior/flyweight clash between Tyron Lashley of the Rose Hall Jammers against Michael April of the Tiger Eye Boxing gym (TEBG). Welterweights Linden Daniels (GDF) and Travis Fraser (TEBG) will next throw down the gauntlet followed by a heavyweight clash between Kelroy Evelyn (GDF) and Jason Barker of the Republican Boxing Gym.
Thirty minutes after the amateur segment has concluded, the professionals will take to the ring and Laured Stewart will face off with Eversley Brown in a 4 rounds middleweight clash followed by the Anson Green/Richard Williamson welterweight clash over a similar distance. Mark Austin, on the redemption trail will match gloves with former European Middleweight champion, Howard ‘Battersea Bomber’ Eastman in an 8 rounds jnr/middleweight shindig just before the feature attraction which pits the skills of Clive Atwell against Barbadian Shurwayne ‘The Mauler’ Marshall in an 8 rounds lightweight contest.
Meanwhile, the boxers are scheduled to grace the studios of the National Communications Network for the press conference at 13:00hrs tomorrow afternoon where the nation will be briefed of their training regimen and plans for their respective bouts.
President of the GBBC, Peter Abdool will be joined by Tournament Organizer (GBA), Terrence Poole from 13:00hrs to brief the nation of the progress of the Guyana Fight Night initiative, the challenges encountered as well as plans for future cards.
