Basseterre, St Kitts – The third round of matches in the Regional Under-19 3-day tournament was completed yesterday across three venues in St Kitts.
At Conaree, Guyana beat Windward Islands by 140 runs
Tagenarine Chanderpaul hit an unbeaten 66 on the final day, but it was the Windward Islands batting that squandered a chance to come from behind to defeat Guyana at Conaree. Guyana started Day 3 on 42/3, leading the Windwards by 165 runs.
In the search for quick runs, quick wickets also fell as the score got to 70/5. However, Chanderpaul’s patient knock of 66 from 136 balls, which contained eight fours provided the stability that Guyana required. The only other real contribution was from Akashay Homraj (31), who happened to be the only other batsman in Guyana’s second innings to get into double figures.
Larry Edward (5-37) and Taryck Gabriel (2-44) led the Windwards’ fightback, which left them needing 237 runs for victory. However, the batsmen did not have the fighting spirit as Edward, collapsing to 96 all out. So bad was the batting, Keone George top scored with 30 while the second highest score was from Taryck Gabriel who made 19.
Leading Guyana to victory were Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai who bagged 4-20, Vishal Narayan 3-9 and Romario Shepherd 2-27.
Scores: Guyana 334\9 dec. and 137 all out. Windward Islands 235 and 96 all out.
AT EGSC MOLINEAUX – Jamaica beat Leeward Islands
Jamaica made light work of the Leeward Islands to gain an outright victory by 10 wickets over the hosts on Day 3. After enforcing the follow-on, having dismissed the Leeward Islands for 142 in their first innings, gaining a lead of 162 runs, the Jamaicans were also ruthless in the second innings.
The Leewards started Day 3 on 18/0, but within ten runs were reduced to 28/3. Fighting half centuries from Avier Christian (51) and Jeremiah Louis (53) limped the hosts to 185 all out.
Fabian Allen 4-47 and Christopher Powell with 3-40 never allowed the Leeward Islands batsmen to settle. It meant that the Jamaicans were set a meager target of 24 runs to win, which openers Odaine Mc Catty and Leroy Lug knocked off in less than five overs.
Jamaica won convincingly by 10 wickets to virtually move out of sight at the top of the table.
Scores Jamaica 304\9 and 24\0, Leeward Islands 142 and 185 all out.
AT WARNER PARK – Barbados and T&T draw
Another decent performance from Jeremy Solozano was not enough for the national under-19 cricket team to earn an outright win, as Barbados escaped with a draw in their third round clash.
Chasing 194 for the win, Barbados seemed to be playing for a draw at the tea break. They were crawling along at 80/3 after 37 overs, but some quick wickets after tea gave T&T a glimmer of hope as Barbados were
