Sudesh Fitzgerald ended the reign of former national champion Norman Madhoo, who had played unbeaten since returning on holiday from the USA.
Playing in the Water Store-sponsored event which incidentally is owned by Madhoo, Fitzgerald was summoned to dig deep to defeat the experienced Madhoo 4 sets to 3 in the best of seven final encounter which was played on Friday, at the Malteenoes Sports Club.
Fitzgerald then teamed up with Terrence Joseph to capture the Luck of the Draw Doubles in another outstanding display.

Sudesh Fitzgerald played exceptionally well in his preliminary match against J. Bhupan to win 3/0 with a 15 darts finish and a 135 points check out scoring 25, triple twenty and Bull. After defeating Bhupan next up was a quarter-final clash against R. Madhoo where he won 3/2 to set up a semi final engagement against Anthony Bissoondyal.
Fitzgeral crushed Bissondyal 3/0 to move into the final against Norman Madhoo, who had beaten Sherwyn Greene 3/0 in their semi final encounter.
In the finals (best of 7 legs) Fitzgeral won 2 straight legs then Madhoo won the third leg. In the fourth leg Fitzgerald finishes with 16 darts leaving Madhoo at 116 point. Norman strikes back scoring 180 points in the fifth leg and finish the leg with 15 darts check out.
In their sixth game Fitzgerald had a chance to end the match; he went for double 18, Bull but misses the Bull, Mahdoo finishes the leg with double twenty. With both players at 3 all the last leg was the breaker.
Madhoo went for the finish, going for 164 on the board; he miscalculated the double, instead of playing triple 19, triple 19, Bull he played triple 19, triple19, double 16 leaving him with 18 points on the board. Sudesh Fitzgerald take the leg back and won the tournament playing for 56, he shot single 20, double 18 and end the game.
Greene defeated Bissondyal in the fight for third place, winning 3/1.
Luck of the Draw Doubles
Team Colin France and Anthony Bissoondyal defeated Norman Madhoo and Naresh Sukhu 2/0 in the quarter final, but then met their demise against Jaswantie Hiralall and Sherwyn Greene in the semi finals losing 2/1.
The pair of Sudesh Fitzgerald and Terrence Joseph defeated Delon Correia and Brian James in their semi final 2/0, before meeting up with Hiralall and Greene.
Unfortunately team Hiralall and Greene were crushed by Fitzgerald and Joseph in the finals 3/0.
